Wikis

Here's another great Web 2.0 technology that is SO EASY to use but can be so engaging! It's a wiki, named after the Hawaiian word for quick, and they really are very quick to set up. I'm sure you've all heard of Wikipedia, and the concept for that came from the basic wiki.

In short, a wiki is a website that can be edited by multiple people. When you create a wiki, it can be a public wiki that anyone can see, or you can create a password or invite people by email to be collaborators on your wiki.

This is a basic wiki I created; my idea was to create a "get to know you wiki" that all of my students could then edit and post their responses to the questions. This could then be viewed by everyone in the class, (including me!) and let the class learn a little about each other. Wikis could also be used for discussion on a book or novel, or to create a forum where students can post their own creative writing... there are SO many possible uses!

There are several sites you can make wikis from, but this is one of the easiest to use. They even have the option of creating a "Wiki 2.0", but that's for another post!
